Ford recalls over 850000 vehicles in US for fuel pump defect

Ford Motor Company is recalling 850,318 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the low-pressure fuel pump that may lead to engine stalling while driving, posing an increased risk of crashes. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall following reports that internal contamination of the fuel pump system could impair fuel delivery to the engine. The affected vehicles include a wide array of models produced between 2021 and 2023.

These comprise certain Ford Broncos, Explorers, Mustangs, Expeditions, and the F-series Super Duty trucks (F-150, F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD). Also included are Lincoln Aviators and Navigators from model years 2021 to 2022. The company estimates that approximately 10% of the recalled vehicles are likely to carry the defect. Ford has not reported any accidents or injuries associated with the issue so far. However, the automaker has acknowledged receiving multiple consumer complaints related to sudden power loss.

The defect can manifest in several ways before a full failure, including engine misfiring, rough running, reduced power output, or activation of the check engine light. According to NHTSA documents, these symptoms are more common during hot weather or when fuel levels in the tank are low. While a repair plan is currently under development, Ford will begin notifying affected vehicle owners starting Monday, July 14.

These initial letters will alert customers of the potential safety hazard. Once a permanent remedy is finalized, owners will receive a second letter with instructions on how to schedule a free repair at authorized dealerships. The faulty component is part of the fuel delivery module, and its failure stems from internal contamination, which Ford says may be linked to supplier changes uncovered during a manufacturing review.

Ford dealerships were informed of the recall earlier this week and are prepared to handle related service requests as soon as a remedy is available. Ford advises that owners can contact its customer service line or reach out to their nearest Ford or Lincoln dealership to confirm if their vehicle is affected. The recall adds to a growing list of safety-related actions taken by the company in recent years. In 2024 alone, Ford issued multiple recalls, including one affecting over 200,000 vehicles related to a software issue that increased crash risk.

In the first half of 2025, Ford reported over 1.1 million vehicle sales in the U.S. across both the Ford and Lincoln brands. Despite the recall, the company continues to maintain a significant share of the U.S. automotive market. The recall action is expected to impact consumer perceptions, though Ford has emphasized its commitment to safety and proactive defect management. – By Content Syndication Services.
